Formula Reference
Barite Weight-Up (sacks per 100 bbl)
Sacks/100 bbl = 1470 x (MW2 - MW1) / (35 - MW2)
Where:
MW1 = Current mud weight (ppg)
MW2 = Desired mud weight (ppg)
35 = Barite density (ppg)
1470 = Conversion factor (100 lb sacks)
Volume Increase from Weight-Up
Volume Increase (bbl) = (MW2 - MW1) x V1 / (35 - MW2)
Where V1 = Starting volume (bbl)
Dilution Volume Required
V_dilution = V_mud x (MW_current - MW_desired) / (MW_desired - MW_diluent)
Density Conversions
SG = ppg / 8.34
pcf = ppg x 7.48
kg/m3 = ppg x 119.83
Gradient (psi/ft) = ppg x 0.052
