Formula Reference
Kill Mud Weight
Kill MW = Current MW + (SIDPP / (0.052 x TVD))
Where:
SIDPP = Shut-In Drill Pipe Pressure (psi)
TVD = True Vertical Depth (ft)
0.052 = Pressure gradient constant
Formation Pressure
P_form = P_hydrostatic + SIDPP
P_form = (0.052 x Current MW x TVD) + SIDPP
Weight Up Material (Barite)
Barite (lb/bbl) = 1470 x (MW_final - MW_initial) / (35 - MW_final)
Volume Increase (bbl) = (MW_final - MW_initial) x V_initial / (35 - MW_final)
Where:
35 = Barite density (ppg)
1470 = Conversion constant (lb/bbl divided by ppg difference)
Dilution Volume
V_dilution = V_initial x (MW_current - MW_desired) / (MW_desired - MW_dilutant)
Final Volume = V_initial + V_dilution
General Weighting Material Formula
Material (lb/bbl) = 42 x W_mat x (MW_final - MW_initial) / (W_mat - MW_final)
Where:
W_mat = Weighting material density (ppg)
42 = Gallons per barrel
